I spend my working life immersed in a world of floral fantasies, with blossoms and celebrations, but my love of winter weddings stretches way beyond the flowers.
While I love getting creative with winter foliage and flowers, and the magic sprinkled into a Christmas wedding, it’s the entire ambience and atmosphere of winter weddings that captures my heart, and I’m sure every other wedding florist worth their salt!
They just seem to be undeniably romantic, with a unique charm brought on by the season – and extra benefit, you don’t need a bad weather plan, it’s usually your only one, especially for us here in Scotland! Here’s a few more things that I think make winter weddings just so special…
Atmosphere and Easy Elegance
Winter casts its own spell, a sort of refined elegance that comes with crisp air, the occasional frost and snowflakes and extra ‘space’ created in the views with the lack of foliage.
It’s so starkly different from the other seasons that it seems to bring its own atmosphere, its undeniable pared backness, that allows for the elegance of a celebration to really take centre stage. It’ the perfect season for large floral installations, especially against windows backing onto white frost, as they really pop and create drama!
Intimate & Cosy Gatherings
Shorter days and longer nights bring a dreamy cosiness to winter weddings, and venues tend to be cosier indoor venues with dreamy lighting and candles, with a focus more on comfort and relaxation than perhaps the outdoor wedding of summer. This brings a feeling of warmth and closeness among the guests, and I never see a quiet winter party!
Seasonal Treats
Winter brings the opportunity to incorporate winter tastes and smells – mulled wine, hot cocoa and real gourmet culinary experiences – with often more time to enjoy wedding breakfasts, and these forming a more integral part of the day.
Romance
It’s hard not to feel the romance under a canopy of twinkly lights, or that end of day light. Festive spirit is high, add in an extra dose of love with a wedding and everyone is feeling it – cue more slow dances, more candles and a whole lot of romantic vibes!
Amp up this romantic winter vibe with lots of softer greenery, and the classic rose for some stunning winter elegance in your flowers and bouquet.
Styling
Winter weddings can go bolder with decor and colours – think warm, rich tones, lush textures and sophisticated details that pull together an opulent aesthetic – darker rooms, warmer lighting makes for an elegant and striking environment. Then add in some roaring fireplaces and the odd festive touch, some abundant greenery and a flower garland or too- *chefs kiss!*
Winter Wedding Photography
Nothing beats the soft winter light, early sunsets and the sun so low in the sky for capturing the most ethereal and romantic photos.
The gentle glow backlighting the happy couple, a snow kissed landscape, the changing light giving your flowers and bouquet a changing look – everything is in place for some breathtakingly beautiful photos!
Winter weddings certainly have all the elements to make for a stunning day, filled with memories – are you planning a winter wedding and still need to lock in your luxury wedding florist? I would love to hear from you – pick a time that suits and book your consultation now.
