There is nothing I love more than heading off to a wedding venue to chat flowers with a couple. I get to see them in their element, getting excited about their big day – and see the looks on their faces when they start to feel, and see, it all coming together.
Choosing your wedding venue is a deeply personal decision – one that goes past aesthetics and logistics. IMO it’s one of the hardest decisions you make when wedding planning, I know it was my toughest decision. I wanted somewhere that resonated with me and my partner’s story, somewhere that evoked a sense of connection – somewhere that truly set the stage for the beginning of our journey as a married couple. It’s not a lot to ask for really!
Your venue serves as your backdrop to some of your (hopefully!) most cherished memories, and needs to be a place where every detail from the architecture, to the surrounding landscape speaks to your hearts.
I believe that feeling connected to your venue is key, it should feel like home to you. It’s where you’ll exchange vows, dance the night away and create memories with your nearest and dearest – it’s not just a place to have a wedding, it’s a reflection of you as a couple and your love.
So once you’ve done the super easy task of finding that place, you need to make it yours – elevate it and make it special – and you guessed it, flowers are a great way to do that. Let’s look at what’s important when thinking about your wedding flowers, and your venue.
Understanding Your Space
This is where I come in – you see your venue through a wide angle lens, loving everything about it. Each little alcove, mantle, beam presents an opportunity for some floral magic, and it’s all about highlighting the right ones. By walking through the space together, we can visualise how each area can be decorated and dressed with gorgeous flowers. Whether we’re creating a grand entrance, a feature in the reception space or creating impact in the ceremony space discussing your vision, and mine, together in the context of your venue allows us to tailor the designs to suit the space and the vibe perfectly. No cookie cutter arrangements here!
Harmonising with the Surroundings
My approach to floral design embraces the organic beauty of spaces and places, so as much as we want to really think about the space instead we also want to consider the landscape outside of your venue. We want to make sure every element chosen enhances the natural charm of your chosen place, and flows seamlessly between spaces.
Maximising Impact
Flowers have the utterly remarkable ability to transform a space, create a vibe, an ambience – and evoke emotions with their beauty and even fragrance. On our visit we can identify focal points, and strategic areas where abundant blooms would have the biggest impact. Whether it’s cascading installations, statement centerpieces or more delicate accents we’ll use your venue to help us allocate your budget effectively, maximising bang for buck and making sure your flowers leave that lasting impression.
Personalised Touches
Your wedding flowers play a crucial role in expressing your style and personality – both individually and as a couple. When being in your venue with you I can get a much better idea of the overall aesthetic and ambience you wish to achieve, and how to make your designs truly yours. And you never know what I’m paying attention to – often a little thing will be said that I can take and include in your designs that is a very personal touch, but you wouldn’t have thought about it otherwise.
Creativity
Creativity is key for me and collaborating on-site helps me to explore innovative ways, unconventional installations and to think outside the box, within the box, if you know what I mean!
We are very lucky to have so many amazing venues; here’s some of my favourites with some floral inspiration.
